He Chooses

As we approach Christmas it seems fitting for the final blog post for 2014 to be about Christmas, and most importantly around the reason for this season and that is our Saviour and King Jesus Christ.

And having come in, the angel said to her, "Rejoice, highly favoured one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women." But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. Luke 1:28-32 [NKJV]

Mary was but a teenager, yet God chose her. She found favour with God and for all eternity will be honoured as the earthen vessel that carried the divine treasure of heaven into this earth. This young girl probably lived in obscurity for most of her earthly life. She was not privileged, certainly not one who was seen on the cocktail circuit of the day.

Yet even as the earthly mother of Jesus, she never made the nation's hit parade. In fact, she had to suffer and witness the agonising death of Jesus. That scene must have been like a dagger through the heart. But encouragement of this part of the great Christmas story is this: you don't need to be famous to catch the eye of God.
